';Arbeit macht frei';...No it won't! Work never made anyone free. How do they justify this false statement?

If anything, it only sends you to an early grave.';Arbeit macht frei';...No it won't! Work never made anyone free. How do they justify this false statement?
Congratulations on selecting the statement which is the most difficult of all to defend! This difficulty, I would argue, stems purely from its historical associations because it was misappropriated by the Nazis.

Work is very good at making us free from want, hunger, cold, oppression, and sickness. In fact, unless we are born extremely fortunate, it is indespensible for any kind of freedom. If we are warm, comfortable, and well-fed at the moment, it is because of the work we have put in, or - very importantly - that someone has put in on our behalf. Even in quietening the mind and developing a sense of generalised well-being, work is necessary; we have to fight to overcome our habitual tendencies.

This slogan reminds me a bit of the swastika, and for more than the obvious reason. It is a good and wholesome thing perverted by Nazi misuse.';Arbeit macht frei';...No it won't! Work never made anyone free. How do they justify this false statement?
Why is it false? So far ';work'; has provided me with money. And the more money I have, the more choices (aka freedom) I have regarding my life.

I know there are some who obtain money without work, but for the vast majority of people, work is the best mechanism to obtain money, which provides choices, which is a key element of ';free';.
Is it really necessary to justify something that the a German nationalist came up with and that was then adopted first by the Weimar government and then by Hitler and the Nazi Party? I think we can safely consign that phrase to the dustheap of history and move on.

Cheers.
It works pretty good if they can convince you that it is true. At least it works pretty good for the ones trying to exploit you.

Love and blessings Don
Poverty doesn't set you free either.

. . . Just sayin . . .
It was propaganda, and a cruel joke.

Nobody believed it.
shows how stupid and naive the germans were and why they were all surprised when the allies bombed germany
