Anyone have an opinion on Alcee Hastings being past over for what appears to be false agent testimony ?

Is this covering your democratic backside? Admitting you believe the man was guilty? Or business as usual ? Read all the information and give a thoughtful answer no partisan BS.

Critics pointed out that he had been impeached when he was a federal judge and said naming him to such a sensitive post would be a mistake just as the Democrats take over House control pledging reforms.

Hastings, who came to Congress in 1992, was charged in an FBI bribery sting but acquitted by a federal jury in 1983.

In 1997, the Justice Department found an agent had falsely testified against Hastings, but no action was taken to reopen his case.

In 2000, Democrats passed over another member of the Congressional Black Caucus Rep. Sanford Bishop for the senior Democratic spot on the intelligence panel.

As a Republican I am confused. Can someone give me honest facts on this issue?Anyone have an opinion on Alcee Hastings being past over for what appears to be false agent testimony ?
Hastings did indeed manage an aquittal using the tactic that William Borders (co-defendent) was lying about Hastings' complicity in the bribery scandal. Borders was convicted. If you investigate all the details of what happened in the Romano Bribery scandal you are left with little doubt that Hastings was complicit. The Eleventh circuit court of Appeals in Florida believed Hastings was guilty and that the evidence was overwhelming against him. Using their authority to discipline judges they employed John Doar to investigate Hastings who came to the conclusion that Hastings had lied repeatedly under oath during his trial. The case was referred to the Judiciary Committee in the House of Representatives. Impeachment was prepared on 17 different articles and the full House voted 413-3 to impeach. Before the Senate Hastings was convicted on 9 of the 17 articles and aquitted on 2 articles (articles 10-15 were never voted on). There are stories from the late 90's which indicate that an FBI agent may have testified falsely about what is termed peripheral evidence in the case. Whether or not the FBI agent testified falsely is a concern, but to date no one has moved to reopen the impeachment case, but again if you review the details of the Romano case you will find that Hastings' behavior if innocent was extremely suspicious. Now the problem here is that we just cannot have a person chairing the Intelligence Committee (one of the most powerful in government) who is tainted by scandal, much less extreme criminal activity while sitting as a federal judge.Anyone have an opinion on Alcee Hastings being past over for what appears to be false agent testimony ?
Glad I could help.
