Identity theft & felony: how to correct false information in the media?

My Godson lost his school ID when in high school: recently a young man his age was booked as an accomplice to murder in a small rural town in Texas, and the alleged felon had my Godson's ID. He was booked under my son's name, and the media carried that name in stories, now on internet, when the name was erroneous. Any advice on how to get this corrected in the media; the country sheriff doesn't seem to be very concerned about issuing a letter to us correcting this. Can my son file a suit if the County involved does not correct this soon? This has already had negative consequences to my son, emotionally, on the job, around people who know him by name and heard the story. We need to get this cleared up soon.Identity theft %26amp; felony: how to correct false information in the media?
to correct information put out by the press or media, i would imagine you could contact them and ask about a retraction, as for the cops i don't see them doing anything as it is not their area to handle these kinds of matters. If the publicity causes pain and problems for you Godson, then it becomes a legal matter and getting an atty. probably will be the best answer for a resolution. Best of luck.Identity theft %26amp; felony: how to correct false information in the media?
